The New Osight R Is Here: Price, Release Date, and Full Specs

We have the new Osight R available now at Deerford Defense. This is Osight’s first dedicated rifle red dot. It has an enclosed emitter, a large window, a 2 MOA dot with a selectable 65 MOA circle, and a Micro T1/T2 footprint.

At $279.99, the Osight R costs less than a Holosun AEMS Pro X2 while offering nearly the same window size and reticle format. It also works with the broad selection of T1/T2 mounts already on the market. The Osight does not have the AEMS Pro X2’s solar backup or automatic brightness, however, so the lower price comes with clear tradeoffs. Here is what you get for the money.

What Makes the Osight R Different

Osight built its name around pistol optics. The R is the company’s move into a purpose-built rifle sight, not a handgun optic placed on a rail adapter. It comes with a lower-third Picatinny mount, weighs 6.7 ounces with the mount and battery, and uses a full-size 1.10-by-0.87-inch viewing window.

The enclosed housing protects the emitter between two lenses. Rain, dust, and loose debris can still collect on the outer glass, but they cannot drop directly onto the LED the way they can with an open-emitter sight. That is the real benefit of an enclosed optic. It is easier to keep the aiming system clear when conditions get messy.

The Osight R is listed at $279.99. That price includes the optic, a 1.535-inch lower-third mount, CR2032 battery, front and rear lens caps, an anti-reflective device, adjustment tool, mounting hardware, cleaning cloth, and documentation.

You do not need to buy a basic mount before using it on a standard Picatinny rail. Optional 1.21-inch low and 1.93-inch high mounts are available for setups that need a different optical centerline, but the mount in the box is the height many rifle owners would have purchased first anyway.

Osight launched the R in September 2026, and we have it listed now. Initial dealer arrival dates can vary during a new-product rollout, so the stock status on the product page is more useful than a single nationwide release date.

A Large Window and a Useful Circle-Dot

The 1.10-by-0.87-inch window is the same listed size as the window on the Holosun AEMS Core X2 and Pro X2. That gives the $279.99 Osight R a generous sight picture without the extra width, weight, and cost of the AEMS EVO.

The reticle can display a precise 2 MOA red dot, a bold 65 MOA circle, or both together. The dot gives you a clean aiming reference when you want less clutter. The circle is quicker to find at close range. The combined mode is likely where many owners will leave it because it provides both references at once.

Osight currently offers the R with a red reticle. Buyers who want green or gold have more choices in the AEMS family.

The T1/T2 Footprint Is a Smart Choice

Osight used the common Micro T1/T2 footprint. That gives owners access to low, absolute co-witness, lower-third, and taller mounts from several manufacturers instead of locking the optic to a proprietary mount.

The included mount clamps directly to a Picatinny rail and places the optical centerline at 1.535 inches. That is slightly lower than the 1.63-inch mount included with current AEMS Core X2 and Pro X2 models, but both fall into the lower-third range.

Always confirm the exact mount model and height before swapping hardware. Sharing a footprint does not make every T1/T2 mount equally suitable for every setup.

Battery, Brightness, and Night-Vision Controls

The Osight R runs on a side-loading CR2032. You can replace the battery without removing the optic or disturbing its zero. Osight lists a maximum runtime of 83,000 hours with the dot-only reticle at brightness level 5. The large circle and brighter settings will reduce that figure.

Motion activation wakes the reticle when the optic moves, and the sight shuts down after three minutes without movement. It remembers the last brightness setting and warns you about a low battery by blinking the reticle three times each minute.

You get nine daylight settings and three night-vision levels. A dedicated NV button jumps straight to the night-vision range instead of making you click through the daylight settings.

Housing, Lens Protection, and Box Contents

The housing is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and carries an IPX8 water-resistance rating. Front and rear lens caps protect the glass during storage and transport. The front cap can be replaced with the included anti-reflective device to reduce glare and add protection without covering the sight picture.

Inside the box are the optic, lower-third mount, CR2032 battery, two lens caps, anti-reflective device, adjustment tool, mounting hardware, cleaning cloth, documentation, and warranty materials. It is a complete package rather than an optic body that still needs basic accessories before it can be mounted.

How the Osight R Compares With Holosun AEMS

The closest Holosun match is the AEMS Pro X2. It shares the Osight’s window size, CR2032 battery, and 2 MOA dot with a selectable 65 MOA circle. The Pro adds Solar Failsafe and automatic brightness, while the Osight uses the more common T1/T2 footprint and costs $120 less at the prices checked for our comparison.

The AEMS Core X2 sits closer in price, but it uses a plain 2 MOA dot and drops the circle reticle, solar backup, and automatic brightness. The AEMS EVO moves in the opposite direction with a larger 1.26-by-0.98-inch window, more weight, and a higher price.

Our Take on the New Osight R

On paper, Osight got the important parts right. The window is large, the circle-dot is useful, the battery is easy to replace, and the T1/T2 footprint gives owners plenty of mount choices. At $279.99 with a lower-third mount in the box, the Osight R has a clear reason to exist beyond being another enclosed red dot.

The tradeoff is straightforward. You give up the solar backup and automatic brightness found on the more expensive AEMS Pro X2. If those features matter to you, the Holosun earns part of its premium. If they do not, the Osight R offers the same basic window size and reticle format for considerably less.
