Precision laser porting puts expanding gas to work. Ports cut near the muzzle direct gas upward, helping counter muzzle rise and bring the sights back on target sooner. Because the system is machined into the barrel and slide, it delivers recoil control without adding length, threaded hardware, or a separate compensator.

A Porting Layout Designed Around Your Pistol
Good porting is not one-size-fits-all. Window size, port count, shape, and placement are scaled to the proportions of the slide. Barrel length, caliber, front-sight location, factory windows, and available space all influence the final design.
Slim subcompacts need a different approach than compact, full-size, and long-slide pistols. Smaller pistols generally benefit from a focused pattern that takes the edge off a sharp recoil impulse, while longer slides provide room for larger or additional ports. The layout is selected to balance recoil reduction, reliability, and the pistol’s original design.
Whenever the slide allows it, the ports are positioned toward the muzzle and behind the front sight. This placement keeps the work away from the chamber, preserves useful barrel length ahead of the ports, and provides strong leverage against muzzle rise.
What to Expect From a Ported Pistol
Porting offers a noticeable advantage in muzzle control, but it comes with real tradeoffs. A ported pistol is louder and more concussive, and it can produce more visible flash. The modification is permanent, and some configurations may require ammunition or recoil-spring adjustments for dependable cycling.
Some muzzle-velocity loss is also possible because gas begins venting before the bullet exits the barrel. The amount is not universal; it varies with the pistol, caliber, ammunition, barrel length, and port layout. Reliability and point of impact should be verified with the ammunition you intend to use after the work is complete.
Mail-In Process
- Place your order and complete the Laser Porting Questionnaire.
- Print your order confirmation and place it inside the package. Pack the slide, barrel, and guide rod or recoil-spring assembly securely in a box.
- Ship only the requested components. Do not include the frame or receiver. You are responsible for arranging and paying for shipment to Deerford Defense.
- Your parts will be inspected, laid out, laser cut, and checked. After the work is complete, Deerford Defense will return them to the billing address or alternate return address submitted with your order by USPS Priority Mail. Return shipping is included in the service price.

Typical turnaround is approximately two weeks from the day your parts arrive. Special, custom, or unusually complex projects may require additional time.
Finish and Care
Full refinishing is not currently included. Machined surfaces are deburred, polished, treated, and protected before return. Cerakoted slides may need refinishing after machining, while stainless and polished surfaces can usually be blended. Harsh solvents can remove protective oil, so exposed steel should be lightly recoated after cleaning.
