The AEMS Micro is the compact member of this pair. Holosun lists its body at 1.50 inches long, 1.00 inch wide and 1.20 inches high, with a 0.71 x 0.71-inch window. Its square window gives it a distinctive appearance while keeping the overall dimensions compact.
The emitter sits inside the enclosed body, rather than in an exposed channel behind the viewing lens. This helps shield it from loose debris. The front and rear lenses are still exposed, however, and need to be kept clean.
The smaller housing is the Micro’s main attraction. It keeps the enclosed design and electronic features without the Macro’s extra width and height.
Window and Multi-Reticle System
The Micro has a square viewing window. Its Multi-Reticle System provides a central dot, surrounding circle and combined display. That lets the owner choose the visible pattern without changing to another optic.
Pattern selection should not be confused with color selection. The AEMS Micro is available in separate red, green and gold versions. The red model cannot switch its reticle to green or gold.

Brightness, Power and Battery Access
The AEMS Micro combines manual brightness control with an automatic mode using a forward-facing light sensor. It also includes Solar Failsafe and Shake Awake. These features perform different jobs: brightness control manages illumination intensity, solar support supplements electrical power, and Shake Awake activates the sight when it detects motion and helps conserve power while it is idle.
The replaceable battery is a side-loading CR1620. Side access is convenient because battery replacement does not require removing the complete optic. The solar panel does not recharge the cell, so you still need to replace the battery when necessary.
Memory retains your settings, while lockout helps prevent accidental changes to the controls.
The AEMS Micro Footprint
AEMS Micro uses a dedicated mounting interface and includes an RMSc-to-Micro adapter. Confirm that the adapter is compatible with your particular pistol.
A 507K or EPS Carry mount is not automatically a match for the Micro. Its mounting pattern is different, even though all three optics have compact bodies.

A Larger Body With a Larger Opening
The AEMS Macro measures 1.62 inches long, 1.20 inches wide and 1.40 inches high. Its window is 0.90 x 0.90 inches, making it larger than the Micro’s opening in both directions.
That larger square window is the centerpiece of the Macro’s design. It provides more viewing space, but it also requires a longer, wider and taller housing. Consider the window and body dimensions together when deciding whether the extra size suits your needs.
The Macro is an enclosed, non-magnified pistol sight. It is a separate model from the rail-mounted AEMS Max and Ronin AEMS Max rifle optics.
Reticle Options and Controls
The Macro comes in red, green and gold MRS versions. Each offers selectable dot and circle patterns through the larger square window.
The Macro offers both manual and automatic brightness adjustment. As on the Micro, automatic mode responds to the light detected by the sensor. You can still use manual mode if you prefer to select the brightness yourself.
Both models offer automatic brightness and a selectable reticle, so neither feature distinguishes the Macro from the Micro. Their more important differences are the dimensions and mounting interfaces.
Battery, Housing and Power Management
The Macro takes a CR1632 battery; the Micro takes a smaller CR1620. Both batteries are accessible from the side, so replacement does not require removing the sight.
Solar Failsafe supplements battery power in suitable light. Shake Awake conserves power between uses, and memory and lockout help preserve your preferred settings.
Holosun lists a 7075 aluminum housing for the Macro. Both models have an enclosed emitter, so that feature alone is not a reason to choose the larger sight. The Macro’s appeal lies in its larger window and different mounting interface.

How Much Larger Is the Macro Window?
