Holosun Ronin Optics Explained: EPS Carry, 507COMP and AEMS Max

Holosun Ronin optics bring the Ronin Tactics collaboration to three very different designs: the EPS Carry, 507COMP and AEMS Max. They share the Ronin name, but they do not share one window size, footprint, battery or type of housing.

The EPS Carry keeps things compact and enclosed. The 507COMP offers a larger open window, while the AEMS Max is a rail-mounted rifle sight. Start with the format you need, then compare the Ronin edition with its standard counterpart.

The Compact Enclosed Option

The Ronin EPS Carry combines the compact EPS Carry design with edition details developed in collaboration with Tu Lam of Ronin Tactics. Its defining physical feature is the enclosed emitter: the light-producing components sit inside a housing rather than in an exposed channel behind the lens.

Debris can obstruct the exposed emitter channel of an open sight. An enclosed design shields that internal path, although the front and rear lenses still need routine cleaning. The Ronin EPS Carry therefore differs from the Ronin 507COMP in both its housing design and its window size.

The window measures 0.77 x 0.58 inches, placing it in the compact pistol-optic category. The design prioritizes a small enclosed body rather than the largest possible viewing area. That balance is an important part of the EPS Carry’s appeal.

Reticle and Color Choices

The Ronin EPS Carry offers Holosun’s Multi-Reticle System: a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle or both together.

MRS lets you choose a simple dot or add the surrounding circle without changing optics. It is a useful option if you prefer more than one reticle pattern.

Red and green Ronin versions are separate variants. To compare the edition fairly with a standard EPS Carry, start with the same color and MRS configuration. Comparing a Ronin MRS model with a standard dot-only model introduces a reticle difference as well as the edition differences.

Battery, Housing and Controls

The optic uses a side-loading CR1620 battery and an aluminum housing. The side-loading compartment lets you replace the battery without removing the optic.

Shake Awake activates the sight when it detects motion and conserves power while it is idle. The side-loading CR1620 keeps routine battery replacement straightforward.

The Ronin EPS Carry combines the features that make the standard EPS Carry appealing with the look of the Ronin edition. It is worth considering if you want a compact enclosed MRS sight and prefer the collaboration’s styling.

Footprint and Comparable Models

Ronin EPS Carry uses the Holosun K footprint and includes an RMSc-to-K adapter. Confirm compatibility with your particular slide and optic cut.

Holosun Ronin 507COMP in Detail

A Large Open-Emitter Window

The Ronin 507COMP uses an open-emitter design and a 1.10 x 0.87-inch window. Its wider, taller viewing opening immediately separates it from the EPS Carry. It also has a different housing layout: the emitter is not contained within a closed front-and-rear optical chamber.

The larger window gives you more space to see the reticle. Unlike the EPS Carry, however, the 507COMP leaves the channel between emitter and lens exposed.

Both sights have a non-magnified 1x view. The choice is between the 507COMP’s larger open window and the EPS Carry’s smaller enclosed body.

Ronin Reticle Options

Holosun’s Ronin-specific model description lists a selectable dot-and-circle MRS reticle. Check this detail when comparing editions, because the standard 507COMP family is also associated with competition-oriented reticle systems that offer multiple circle sizes.

The Ronin 507COMP and standard 507COMP have the same large-window format, but check the reticle options on the exact edition you choose.

Ronin 507COMP comes in red and green. Compare it with a standard 507COMP in the same color when deciding whether the Ronin edition is worth the extra cost.

Battery and Body

The Ronin 507COMP uses a side-loading CR1632 battery, which differs from the CR1620 in the EPS Carry. The side tray provides access without removing the optic just to replace the cell.

Its aluminum housing has room for the large rectangular window while retaining the open-emitter layout. Choose it over EPS Carry when viewing space matters more to you than a compact enclosure.

Already own a standard 507COMP? The Ronin edition is most interesting if you prefer its styling or specific reticle configuration; the window remains the same size.

RMR Footprint and Where It Fits

The Ronin 507COMP uses the RMR mounting interface. It is not interchangeable with the Ronin EPS Carry simply because both are pistol optics, and it is not a rail-mounted AEMS Max alternative.

Choose Ronin 507COMP for its large open window and RMR footprint. Confirm that your slide or adapter plate supports this exact model before ordering.

Holosun Ronin AEMS Max in Detail

The Rifle Optic in the Ronin Lineup

The Ronin AEMS Max belongs to a different category. It is an enclosed rifle sight with a Picatinny mounting arrangement and a substantially larger body than either Ronin pistol optic. Its large rectangular viewing opening is a defining part of the design.

The AEMS Max is the Ronin choice for a rifle. Its Picatinny mount and larger housing distinguish it from the two pistol optics.

The enclosed body shields the emitter behind front and rear lenses. AEMS Max pairs that protection with a large rectangular window and a non-magnified 1x view.

MRS, Solar Support and Brightness

The AEMS Max offers a selectable 2 MOA dot and 65 MOA circle in red or green.

The feature set includes Solar Failsafe, automatic brightness, manual brightness and Shake Awake. These are distinct functions. Automatic brightness manages illumination intensity; solar support supplements electrical power; motion activation helps avoid unnecessary operation while the optic is stationary.

The combination of automatic brightness, manual control and solar support gives you more options for managing the display on the AEMS Max.

Battery and Side Access

A side-loading CR2032 battery allows replacement without removing the sight from its mount.

The solar panel does not turn the CR2032 into a rechargeable cell. As with other Solar Failsafe models, the battery still needs to be replaced when necessary.

The AEMS Max suits buyers who want a large enclosed rifle sight. For a pistol, choose between the compact EPS Carry and the larger-window 507COMP.

Among the Ronin models, the EPS Carry and 507COMP are the two pistol optics to compare. The EPS Carry has a smaller enclosed body, while the 507COMP has a larger open window. Their different footprints may determine which suits your platform before window size becomes a deciding factor.
