Each HD set combines a prominent photoluminescent front ring with green tritium lamps and a black-outlined U-notch rear. The outline color and the illumination color are different features: orange and yellow describe the front paint, while the lamps glow green.

Similar-looking HD sets are not universal replacements. For a Glock, identify the frame family and whether the slide is an MOS version. The standard-frame GL101, large-frame GL104, and small-frame GL113 series exclude MOS models. Separately specified GL114, GL145, and GL143 sets address their respective MOS applications. Some MOS-fit sets also list non-MOS pistols, so use the exact model’s compatibility list.

For a 1911, the sight cut is just as important as the pistol name. CA101 sets are the Colt-cut option, while CA128 sets fit Novak-style low-mount dovetail cuts. SIG Sauer sets also require attention to factory sight calibration: SG103 uses a #6 front and #8 rear pairing, while SG101 uses #8 front and #8 rear. Do not choose between those SIG sets solely by front-outline color.

Other platforms have their own distinctions. H&K USP and USP Compact sets differ, and the HK110 P30/HK45C/VP9 application excludes VP9 Optics Ready. Smith & Wesson M&P, Shield, and C.O.R.E./M2.0 Optics Ready configurations have separate sets; Shield EZ is excluded from the SA139 Shield application. Springfield SP101 sets cover listed XD, XD-M, and XD Mod. 2 pistols, while SP102 covers XD-S and XD-E. Both Springfield families exclude OSP models.

Orange or Yellow Front Outline

Choose the front-ring color you find easiest to distinguish against the subdued rear sight. Both colors use photoluminescent paint around the front tritium lamp. The rear’s black outline does not mean the rear is unilluminated: the sets in this collection have two green rear lamps in addition to the green front lamp.

The HD arrangement pairs a front blade 0.144 in. wide with a U-shaped rear notch 0.169 in. wide in the models listed here. Blade height and overall sight height vary by application. Those measurements describe different parts of the sight, so compare like-for-like dimensions when checking a particular set.

HD Sights and Optics-Ready Slides

An MOS-compatible or optics-ready sight cut does not automatically provide a view through a red-dot window. Trijicon specifically states that the standard-frame GL114 HD MOS sets are not tall enough for that purpose. When optic clearance is part of the requirement, compare the exact dimensions and fitment of Trijicon suppressor-height sights rather than assuming that an HD MOS label guarantees co-witness.

Trijicon HD Night Sights FAQs

Do Trijicon HD Night Sights need batteries?

No. The tritium lamps provide their own illumination without batteries or electronic brightness controls. The photoluminescent front-ring paint is a separate feature from the tritium lamps.

Does an orange or yellow front outline change the lamp color?

No. The front outline is colored paint around the lamp. The HD sets in this collection use green tritium lamps at the front and rear, whether the front outline is orange or yellow.

Does the black rear sight still illuminate?

Yes. Black describes the rear outline. The rear sight contains two green tritium lamps, giving the complete set a three-dot illuminated arrangement.

Will one HD set fit every Glock?

No. Standard-frame, large-frame, and small-frame applications have different model numbers, and MOS compatibility must be checked separately. Use the exact set’s fitment list rather than the Glock name alone.

Are HD MOS sights the same as suppressor-height sights?

No. MOS fit identifies a compatible slide configuration, not a guaranteed optic-clearance height. The GL114 standard-frame HD MOS sets are specifically identified by Trijicon as too low to be viewed through a red-dot window.

What should I check when selecting a SIG Sauer set?

Confirm the pistol’s factory sight calibration as well as its model and slide configuration. The SG103 #6-front/#8-rear pairing differs from the SG101 #8-front/#8-rear pairing. A shared pistol-family name does not make those calibrations interchangeable.
